Library Instruction Courses

    Library 125 Introduction to Information Literacy (2 Credits)
This course introduces students to basic skills needed for effective use of library resources and services. Emphasis on locating, selecting and evaluating material in both paper and electronic formats. This course will provide hands-on experience in using information technologies including library databases, the Internet, online discussion and creation of web pages.
    Library 201 Introduction to Research Strategies (2 Credits)
This course is intended for sophomores and transfer students. LIB 201 introduces students to the nature of research, with emphasis on strategies for carrying our inquiry, locating electronic and print sources, assessing sources for authority and selecting and incorporating materials form sources into writing.

    Library 225 Internet Literacy (3 Credits)
Prereq. Sophomore level and above or permission of instructor. This course is designed to teach Internet literacy which includes: understanding Internet publishing & the role of the Internet in scholarly research; defining information needs; identifying & mastering appropriate resources (search engines, directories, databases, E-lists, digital libraries, e-journals, bibliographies, biographies, encyclopedias, and so forth); evaluating Internet information; exploring the effect of the Internet on social issues (censorship, copyright, use trends, fraud, and so forth). Students will create a Web site of resources.
