Giving to the Libraries

Thank you for your interest in the Western Washington University Libraries.

We value the support of all our friends and offer many ways to give to the Mabel Zoe Wilson Library and the Music Library. See our description of current needs.

This is a time of great challenges and opportunities for the Libraries. Your gifts help us to acquire more books, periodicals, media materials, and information technologies to directly support teaching and learning at Western. They provide the margin of excellence for exceptional collections and services.

Supporting Mabel Zoe Wilson Library

Honor with Books

Gifts of $50 or more to the library through ‘Honor with Books’ are recognized by the placement of a nameplate into a new book being added to the collection and also appear in a note for the book record in the library’s online catalog. Use this form to participate.

Gifts of Library Materials

Wilson Library welcomes donations of books, journals, manuscripts, and other materials. Although we appreciate all donations, occasionally some gift items are not appropriate for our collections. In such cases, and with the prior permission of the donor, we are able to generate funds by offering these materials in our booksales. Money raised in this way is used to purchase new materials needed by our current students and faculty. To donate materials, use the Library Materials Donor Information form.

Supporting the Western Libraries' Special Collections

Special Collections welcomes gifts of materials, including individual items and collections, that are suitable for its various collections and will work with prospective donors to develop mutually a acceptable Deed of Gift Agreement. Materials appropriate for inclusion in the Campus History Collection and The Western Collection are especially valued, as are items that meet the criteria for inclusion in the Rare Book Collection.

Supporting Western's Music Library

The best way to contribute to our Music Library is to join the Friends of the Music Library. A full range of membership categories is available. The Friends group offers many activities of interest to music lovers in addition to providing direct support of music collections as well as volunteer assistance for Music Library events.

Library Endowments

Endowments provide funds that keep on giving. Only a percentage of the earned income from an endowment is used, while the principal remains forever intact and is increased by part of the earned income. If you wish, you may contribute to the existing Wilson Library Endowment, an unrestricted fund used at the discretion of the University Librarian for any purpose that will enhance library collections, services, facilities, or staff expertise.

With a gift of $20,000 or more, you can create a permanent endowment for the Libraries which may bear your name or the name of someone you wish to honor.

Your endowment will be used according to your wishes. For example, the Herb and Beth Hearsey Scholarship Endowment provides financial assistance to students employed by the Libraries. Other endowments, such as the Jean Ross Memorial Endowment may be used at the Libraries' discretion in support of collections, services, or other areas of need.
