WHY?
- Knitting is hip and cool.
- You can knit things you would never find in a store, like a superhero costume, interesting sweaters, or even a womb
- Checkout some very cool knitted stuff in the knitting display on the east side of the Wilson entrance
- Knitting will help you relax after a stressful day of classes and tests
WHEN and WHERE?
- Every Wednesday, 4:00 pm, in Wilson Library 268. Drop by the reference desk and ask if you're not sure where that is!
HOW?
- Bring your knitting, or if you are just interested, drop by and ask for advice on how to get started! Instruction, yarn, and needles are available for beginners.
SHARE YOUR FAVORITE KNITTING BOOK(s)
- I am a big fan of Elizabeth Zimmerman. Her books may look old fashioned and wordy, and don't include lots of beautiful pictures like current knitting books, but she is VERY amusing, her patterns are timeless and easy to follow, and she provides lots of great hints for ways to make knitting easy and fun. "Properly practiced, knitting soothes the troubled spirit, and it doesn't hurt the untroubled spirit either," she writes in Knitting without Tears. I particularly love Knitter's Almanac, which has a wonderful pattern for baby "longies", or tights that are fabulous for carrying your child in a backpack in the winter -- they keep the whole leg warm! There is also an adult version which I will someday make for myself :-D! -- Andrea Peterson
